I’ve always had a sneaking sympathy for Beth – smart marks whine that although she’s OK, she’s not one of the best female wrestlers in the world, and drop the names of their indy favourites, while the idiots who hate women(‘s wrestling) complain that she’s too muscular to be their stupid version of “hot”.
Well, in her seven years with WWE, she’s had a pretty decent run.
Yes, there was the Glamarella thing; and yes, it was cringeworthy when during the shortlived Divas of Destruction phase they made her wear tiny skirts and gym knickers rather than the trousers she was used to.
But regardless of her standing in smarky “top 100 female wrestlers” lists, she’s legitimately one of the best female wrestlers WWE have ever had, with a track record in amateur wrestling and the indy scene before signing her developmental deal; and she’s certainly one of the best female wrestlers WWE have had in the past seven years.
It’s a shame that events with Kharma didn’t work out as originally planned; it would have given the Divas division the boost it needed to see the two clash in a Hogan/Giant scenario.
Regardless, she leaves us with some great in-ring memories – here are two of my favourites. Good luck, Beth!
