April 7, 2014

The wrestling fan’s ersatz bank holiday weekend, Wrestlemania 30 was last night, and I had a lot of thoughts about it. Spoiler, obviously.

Question: what did WWE expect to happen at the Royal Rumble?

January 27, 2014

I hate to quote myself, but I was right, wasn’t I?

Thing is, if I could predict this, why couldn’t the WWE? Read the rest of this entry »

Fact: today’s jobbers may be the future’s main-eventers

July 9, 2012

Bored with Ryback squishing local jobbers with ridiculous names and a fondness for rhyming?

Well, take notice of them. Here are two videos from the turn of the millennium (ht to @michaelbyron97 for finding these for me).

From 2002 –

And from 2003 –

So note down the names of those humiliated local jobbers – because in ten years’ time, they could well be your world champions.

Question: What’s MORE heel in the WWE Universe – water or recycling?

February 13, 2012

You know as well as I do this is a question that needs to be answered.

In the past year, we’ve seen a heel-turn for water thanks to R-Truth –

– and this Friday on Smackdown we saw a heel-turn for recycling courtesy of our Prius-driving vegan World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan –

So which one of these evils is worse? The tedious tap-output water? Or the dreadful saving of the earth’s resources that is recycling?

Interview: Sara Del Rey talks WWE, Castagnoli, Danielson – and being the Queen of Wrestling

February 5, 2012

Sara Del Rey has an ambition this year; she wants to be signed by WWE.

I was a little surprised when I heard. After all, we’re all very aware of the attention that WWE pays to women’s wrestling (ie a cursory glance every couple of weeks or so): why would a technically brilliant wrestler, revered the world over, want to move there?

“I’m just trying to do press and let it be known I’m interested,” she says. Read the rest of this entry »

Question: CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho – who is the real Best In The World?

January 27, 2012

Daniel Bryan aka Bryan Danielson aka appreciative boyfriend of AJ aka the World Heavyweight Champion has taken CM Punk and Chris Jericho to task via WWE.com.

Because of their use of the “best in the world” schtick.

Of course, he’s been asserting his claim to that particular title for years, and thinks that Punk and Jericho are mere pretenders to the throne.

So – what do you think?

Wishes for 2012: William Regal manages Wade Barrett to championship glory

December 29, 2011

Yes, this MUST be the year that William Regal finally pulls together his United Kingdom stable. And it simply makes sense that he’ll manage Wade Barrett in an attempt to overthrow of his former protege Daniel Bryan’s World Heavyweight title reign.

WWE ’12 is just a teaser and a tryout.

If the rumours about Randy Orton’s injury are true, then surely Barrett is next in line for the championship picture, where he can heel it up to his heart’s content (with his jacket). It all falls into place. Regal – get on it.

Here’s Regal v Bryan from Superstars in the UK this autumn:
