Fact: an intergender tag tournament hits the UK

November 27, 2012

Quick plug for what looks like is going to be an amazing show in South Shields next month, featuring Friends of TOWIS Rhia O’Reilly, Nikki Storm and Freya Frenzy – it’s the RAD:PRO Embryonix 1.5 – the Intergender Tag Grand Prix Quarter-Finals.

The bill also includes Frankie Sloan, Jonny Storm, Kay Lee Ray, Alpha Female and April Davids – and for £5 a ticket, this is a hell of a bill.

The show is on December 8th at Chuter Ede CA, so if you’re in the area, check it out!

Fact: CM Punk has been WWE Champion for a year

November 25, 2012

A few days late, but congratulations to CM Punk for passing the 365-day mark as WWE Champion.

Commiserations to Paul Heyman for not scaring that flunkey enough to ensure that balloons were an overwhelmingly integral part of Punk’s celebration.

Fact: tonight is Survivor Series 2012

November 18, 2012

So after a couple of weeks of thrown-together nonsense where the very THOUGHT that a grown-up single woman might have slept with a grown-up single man has been deemed a “scandal” and where the “traditional Survivor Series match” has been scrabbling around for some semblance of a storyline, tonight is finally Survivor Series. Fact: British wrestlers are supporting Movember

November 7, 2012

A quick plug for Friends of TOWIS Danny Garnell and Iestyn Rees, both of whom are spending the month growing face furniture in order to raise money for prostate cancer research through the Movember initiative (significantly better organised than Susan J Komen for the Cure). If you have a spare few quid, throw it their way.

November 5, 2012

Isn’t it adorable to see kids at WWE shows? They cheer, they shout, they scream, they mimic the taunts and moves of their heroes, they completely believe everything they’re seeing is real.

And they get really annoyed when they have grown-ups sitting behind them shouting, “CENA SUCKS!”

Yes, I spent Saturday night on the shelf of the Manchester Arena cheering for all the heels (as well as screaming an ill-advised “I LOVE YOU, CLAUDIO!” when the US champion made his way to the ring) and thoroughly distressing the trio of children in front of me who for some reason did not want Dolphin Ziggler to win the Special Attraction match against the one-armed John Cena. Fact: Beth Phoenix bids farewell to WWE

November 2, 2012

And so farewell then, Beth Phoenix, kayfabe-fired by Vickie Guerrero on Monday Night RAW, but in reality choosing to leave WWE at the end of her contract.

I’ve always had a sneaking sympathy for Beth – smart marks whine that although she’s OK, she’s not one of the best female wrestlers in the world, and drop the names of their indy favourites, while the idiots who hate women(‘s wrestling) complain that she’s too muscular to be their stupid version of “hot”.

Well, in her seven years with WWE, she’s had a pretty decent run. Read the rest of this entry »
